Analysing technological influence and dependance for competitive intelligence

Résumé

In this paper we present a method that can be used for the assessment of the technological influence and dependance of players in a domain. Technological influence identifies the extent to which the technologies of a firm are used by other actors for their own innovation activities. Technological dependence measures how the focal firm uses technologies of other actors in order to innovate. Both dimensions are represented using a specific datavisualisation technique aiming to facilitate the analysis. Measuring and visualising these dimensions helps decision makers with a variety of questions ranging from the identification of other applications for their technologies, the identification of potential partners to an assessment of litigation risk.
