Oscura Medea
Résumé
The symbolism of light and darkness has accompanied the Medea myth since its origins and becomes structuring in some of its versions, as for example in Pasolini's film. This article proposes a reading of the story of Medea in terms of her choice, explicit in Corrado Alvaro's work, to renounce all forms of power by a movement of withdrawal towards the darkness, which is not the darkness of the forces of evil evoked by certain authors, such as Seneca or Corneille, but on the contrary a form of non-violence.
