Interpretation of Intangible Heritage applied to World Heritage Sites. The case of the Medina of Marrakech (Morocco)
Résumé
The Medina of Marrakech was registered on the UNESCO List in 1985 for its outstanding universal value regarding tangible heritage, but also it intangible heritage with Jemaâ el-Fna Square as an oral masterpiece since 2001. This international recognition displays the town to operate towards a valorisation process to a large audience. During the last years, Marrakech knew punctual actions of valorisation linked to the Medina as a leader tourism place on Moroccan territory. This intellectual thought (audience, territory and heritage) is based on an interdisciplinary approach whit strong connections with the French concept of "médiation culturelle" ("interpretation" in English). This concept intends to respond to a complexity of the diffusion of transmitted cultural messages to local and foreign audience in a situation of intercultural context. In the coming year, the Jemaâ el-Fna Square could be equipped with an interpretation centre as a didactical medium between audience and the square.
