In line with research that has shown the constructive role of interactions between children in cognitive development, this study suggests to articulate the dialectical relationships between socio-cognitive and affective-relational aspects when children manage a problem-solving situation, i.e., the tower of Hanoi. Studying the role and impact of “affinity” relationships between children in the construction of knowledge, our methodological process to analyse interactions focused on the children’s relational positions in relation to their sociocognitive strategies, in order to dissociate affective-relational regulations from sociocognitive ones. We will discuss the contribution and limitations of such a methodological process.
