Les villae maritimae et l’exploitation des ressources maritimes en Istrie
Résumé
Several coastal villas in Istria are equipped with fishponds whose typology is very specific to this coast: very large structures with high walls made of stones thrown one on top of the other and at least one fishpond built of limestone rubble, a functional model probably intended for the breeding of eels. These constructions are the result of a choice on the part of the owners of the estates to diversify and complement their resources by associating the products of the sea, fish but also shellfish, purple, salt, etc. with agricultural and manufacturing production.
