Brain Damage and Repair: From Molecular Effects to Central Nervous System Disorders
Résumé
Chronical exposures to biological, chemical and physical stressors can be particularly detrimental during the early phase of embryonic development, increasing the risk of brain dysfunctions after birth. Major advances have been made in our understanding of the mechanisms driving the development of a fully functional brain from a limited pool of stem cells, as well as how this organ can respond after injuries. However, further knowledge is required to understand how these processes are altered by environmental stressors, such as ionizing radiations, chemicals, stroke or viral infectious agents, and therefore be able to predict the etiology of neurological disorders.
