Formulation and proportioning simulation of the roller compacted concrete, case of the local materials quarries

Résumé

Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) is presented as an evolutionary technology for a large diversity of applications: Dams, roads, parking areas. In the present work, the resolution of the problem of the RCC formulation in road applications was treated while using some local quarries materials with the specification of low cement content. This study included, at first, the characterization of different granular constituent based on local materials quarries. These different constituents were looked for the confection of the RCC with low cement content. The second step was the application of the formulation methods on various aggregate mixtures, such as those of Bolomey, Faury, Dreux-Gorisse and the semi-empirical method Talbot-Fuller-Thompson. The following step was the proportioning simulation of the various mixtures, by the Compressible Packing Model through the software “Rene-LCPC” and hence to determine the percentages of the constituents. Then, compression and Brazilian tensile (by split-ting) tests were realized on the cylindrical specimens’ type “15/15 cm”, prepared according to the Proctor Method. Finally, the interpretation of the results showed the validity of the semi-empirical method and the reliability of the model adopted for the RCC formulation with a low cement proportioning. © 2021 International Journal of Emerging Technology and Advanced Engineering.
