THE METAMORPHOSIS OF THE WORLD SPACE ECONOMY: INVESTIGATING GLOBAL TRENDS AND NATIONAL DIFFERENCES AMONG MAJOR SPACE NATIONS' MARKET STRUCTURE

Résumé

The foregoing raises important issues regarding the direction of space industries’ current evolution. Are space industries on the path towards becoming more open, civilianised and/or commoditised? Is this transformation homogeneous among major space Nations? Or does it take different form depending on national circumstances? To address the aboveresearch questions, this article collected and analysed data on 1593 spacecraft launched by major space Nations from January 2000 to December 2013. Using descriptive statistics analysis, this article aims at discussing whether or not the asymmetries between commercial versus non-commercial applications, and government versus non-government customers tended to reduce, at least for the satellites and transportation sub-markets
