Minetest: a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO) for new opportunities to develop International Academic activities
Résumé
The use of Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOs) in higher education is part of the EdUTeam (https://eduteam.fr/) learning and research project in game-oriented learning carried out at the Institut de Recherche en Gestion (EA 2354, Université Paris-Est Créteil, France). EdUTeam started in 2016 and is intended to study the value of commercial of the shelf leisure games in higher education. It comprises three sub-projects: EdUTeam Tabletop Role-Playing Games, EdUTeam Tabletop Wargames and EdUTeam Video Games. This presentation tells you the story of the Minetest International Project (MIP) 2021. MIP is a unique experience in the world. It consisted of testing the technical capabilities of Minetest over six weeks with thirty-seven students from five different countries (India, Ukraine, Germany, France, and Canada). The success of this first experiment allows us to consider new opportunities for international academic activities. We will carry out work to design the pedagogical structure of future international courses and tutored projects. All these actions have one aim: to enable more students to participate in international collaborations over a longer period of time.
