The Consequences of Climate Change on the Paraglacial Sedimentary Cascade
Les conséquences du changement climatique sur la cascade sédimentaire paraglaciaire
Résumé
In the context of climate change in glaciated areas, three stages mark the paraglacial sedimentary cascade, which is illustrated on different time scales. The first corresponds classically to ablation and feeds the sedimentary cascade with sediments from the walls and slopes within the catchments. The second is illustrated by the remobilization of slope and surficial deposits. The third and final stage involves the deposition of sedimentary deposits as load breaks occur. Paraglacial landslides typically occur at the beginning of the deglaciation sequence during adjustments related to postglacial decompression. Alluvial cones are widely represented in paraglacial environments where they are set up following the dismantling of moraines. The flows remobilizing sediments during the paraglacial sequences are essentially fed by the rivers themselves supplied by the melting of the glaciers.
