Un air de déjà vieux. Le cliché comme analogon du vieillir chez Beckett
Résumé
Beckett’s work is not on or about old age ; but old age is its base material. Together with childhood, it forms a couple, often present in the same frame. To some extent, Beckett’s writing thwarts the stereotypes associated with aging, usually seen as a process of decay. In his plays in particular, disabilities give skills, which give the opportunity to perceive aging otherwise by literary means. Among them, the cliché offers a verbal equivalent to aging, whose operating is epitomized by Winnie resisting the danger of getting bogged down.
