In the light of the literary and epigraphic documentation and of the most recent historical researches, we investigate what the role of the kingdom of Pergamon was in the geopolitics of Asia Minor during the period extending from the peace of Apamea to the end of the third Galatian war. Roman unipolarity allowed the autonomous actors (kings, dynasts, cities) to develop an intense diplomatic and military activity to expand or to consolidate their own frontiers. However, the hegemonic ambitions of the Attalids, which culminated in 175 B.C., were seriously jeopardized by the persistent warfare of the Galatians.
