Cells are strictly anaerobic, nonsporeforming, nonmotile or motile by means of one or two lateral flagella, slightly curved rods, occurring singly, in pairs, or, rarely, as chains. Gram‐stain‐negative. Mesophilic, neutrophilic. Heterotrophic, asaccharolytic. Growth by fermentation of a limited range of amino acids only in the presence of yeast extract.
