Maps under layers
Sous le calque, la carte
Résumé
The zenithal view that the maps offer may have led to the forgetting of their sources: horizontal experiences of space via the practical and theoretical mastery of distance. This forgetting and the figurative object, received as a higher reality in the form of the tracing paper, were instruments of power. But the profusion of sources, which are imposed today through alternative channels, calls into question the scientific exercise of cartography, forcing a return to the horizontal dimension of the experience. With it, an unexpected epistemological framework takes shape: the space (of the cards) is mobile.
