Sijilmāsa (Morocco): The urbanism of a medieval Islamic site as seen through its hydraulic system (8th-13th centuries AD)

Résumé

The aim of this article is to present an overview of some of the remains of the hydraulic system discovered since 2011 at the medieval site of Sijilmāsa, Morocco, by the French-Moroccan archaeological mission. After a short presentation of the research program and its primary results, we will show how the typological and technological analyses of these structures provide evidence of urbanism, at a site which is poorly preserved and whose organization remains to be clearly understood.
