Projet d’une nouvelle étude technologique de l’Aurige de Delphes : les premiers résultats

Résumé

Since its discovery in 1896, the Delphi Charioteer has been intensively studied. As a ca. 470’s statue, it represents an exceptional evidence for the knowledge of bronzes’ manufacturing techniques. Nevertheless, technological information has yet to be more specific. This is the reason why a complete re-examination of the statue and of the other preserved fragments of the chariot group has been decided by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Phokis which signed an agreement with the French School at Athens and the Louvre Museum to make further investigation. The fifteen years-collaboration between the Louvre and the Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France on Ancient bronzes’ techniques gives the scientific frame for such an investigation.
