Impact - Flood propagation. Isolated building test case
Impact - Propagation de crue. Cas test du bâtiment isolé
Résumé
The aim of the IMPACT project "Isolated building test case" is to investigate the effect thatcould have a building placed within a dam-break flow. An experimental study took place inUCL within a 3.6 m width open channel. The upstream part of the channel was used as areservoir where steady water was stocked until the beginning of the experiment. At thereservoir downstream boundary, the width of the channel was lowered to 1 m in order toconcentrate the flow and represent a natural dam-break when opening the closing gate. Ataround 3.5 m downstream the reservoir, in front of the gate, a 0.8 x 0.4 m impervious buildingwas introduced with a specific angle to the flow direction. Measurements at 6 gauge pointswere taken in order to compare the experimental data available with the results of thesimulations. The numerical simulations were done before receiving the experimental records not to allowcalibration beforehand. Among the calculations, three simulations were selected, using adifferent meshing and they give slightly different results. Afterwards, the three simulationswere compared with the experimental records. We present in this report, the three simulations, their results and differences, and then the comparison with the experiment.
