Dá Chích Anann : mythes et rituels associés aux ‘Seins de Dana’
Résumé
This paper analyses the historical and symbolic significance of the twin mountains called Dá Chích Anann or "the Paps of Anu" (Co. Kerry, Ireland) and to a lesser extent the stone enclosure often referred to as Cathair Crobh Dearg ("the City of the Red Claw"). After a quick description followed by an overview of the modern and contemporary folklore(s) connected to both sites, we will study the various references to the twin mountains and the enclosure in ancient Irish texts: the purpose of this article is to appreciate the cultural importance of the place in Irish history and mythology, the connection between both sites (Dá Chích Anann and Cathair Crobh Dearg) and to try and understand the nature of their inherent symbolism.
