Optical links exploiting Power over Fiber and Raman Amplification for Sensor control: application to cabled observatories for hostile or constraint environments
Résumé
This paper reviews our recent developments in Power over Fiber (PoF) for cabled submarine observatories. This technology has been studied for long links up to 10 km more especially for submarine environments. Our PoF system is based on an optical architecture in which power and data propagate simultaneously on the same single-mode fiber. The Raman scattering effect is exploited to amplify the optical data signals and leads to the minimization of the power consumption of the sensor node. In this paper, we will first present the PoF principle and then the particular architecture that we developed for submarine environment and the experimental characterizations of such an optical link. Then we will expose its use for acoustic applications.
