The question of nativeness in transnational Antiochian Arabic-Turkish-French speaking migrant families in Paris area (France)

Suat Istanbullu

Résumé

These families’ first members came in the seventies in France. Today, there are their children and grandchildren in addition. The first language of the first and second generation is Arabic. They learned Turkish at school in Turkey. The third generation who were born in France: are they native Arabic speakers as their parents? My study is based on a qualitative observation of language practices among these families. In my study I focus on the youngest participants as they open the question of nativeness ragarding some of the languages of their repertoire.
