Study of Active VSWR in a Reduced BFN Antenna Array

Abstract

In this work, we explore the potentiality of a reconfigurable antenna with a particular excitation scheme to reduce the complexity of its Beam forming Networks (BFN). An example based on a 7×7 stacked microstrip patches with 15% of the elements excited has been investigated, to optimize the overall performances, and especially the active reflection coefficient of each radiating element. The non-fed elements are used as parasitic ones and loaded with complex impedances. The results obtained with this original approach are compared to a fully excited array
