Performative Meshes

Florent Di Bartolo

Résumé

Depth cameras are being extensively used to build 3D representation of physical spaces, bodies and objects from depth maps they output. This paper introduces different ways to work with depth map data for aesthetics purpose in the context of audiovisual performances using custom-written software and video projections based on state-of-the-art references and the author artistic practice. Depth maps are both presented as pictures and vectors arrays used to depict live actions happening on stage and to build 3D models that respond to sound events. Depth maps are described as a way to create real-time graphics out of stage events and to relate visually to musical expressions with the help of figurative and abstract images displayed in a virtual environment.
