Serious for fun. Fun for serious. The paradox of the competitive exam of the French Business Schools

Résumé

The French business schools deal with a double competition. On the one hand, in order to get to a business school, students have to succeed to a competitive exam. Competition is strong for the students to get the school they wish to regarding ranking of the schools, scholar fees or mean leading theme of the school. On the other hand, the competition is strong between the schools of same ranking to get the best students. This double competition leads to a paradox that deals with the need of differentiation (Rousseau, 1755). With seduction. With seductions. Seduction from the students destined for the examination board: being performative and serious in order to get the best schooling. Serious for fun. Seduction from the school destined for the students: fun, in opposition with boring, for not being eliminated by the students. Fun for serious. French business schools are a field but this double competition and the paradox it generates can be seen in any cases on which, more than the seduction itself, the perception of seduction from the two parts differs. Lipovetsky (2017) explains how seduction belongs somehow to the Darwin selection because of its animal characteristics. The will of seduction ends in the reach of hyperaesthetics and hyperstimulation. It is therefore related with animal characteristics. Moreover, more than the seduction itself, what is played in the game of competition is a perception of seduction. It is more than the animal characteristics of seduction. Finally, this hyperstimulation is associated to some form of dissatisfaction regarding what the society offers (Bostman & Roo, 2011). Trying to reach a perception of perfection leads to permanent imperfection.
