Direction of arrival estimation by a modified orthogonal propagator method with spline interpolation
Résumé
This paper presents a modified orthogonal propagatormethod (OPM) with spline interpolation for directionof arrival (DoA) estimation. The conventional OPM is basedon the noise-free signal model. When noise exists, the maincontribution of noise (additive temporally and spatially whiteGaussian noise) is in the diagonal elements of the data covariancematrix. Therefore, the influence of noise can be minimized byrestoring the noise free diagonal elements through an interpolationprocedure and the propagator can then be directly extractedfrom the denoised data covariance matrix, which is the mainidea of the proposed method in this paper. The performanceof the proposed modified OPM is tested through numericalsimulations. Simulation results show that the proposed modifiedOPM achieves low root-mean square errors (RMSEs) with smallcomputational load in DoA estimation.
