Tunable Transmission Properties of Lamb Waves in a 1D Phononic Strip by Filling Liquids

Résumé

In this paper, we numerically and experimentally study the propagation of Lamb waves in a 1D reconfigurable phononic strip with periodic hollow pillars selectively filled with water. Numerical simulations are implemented by using the finite element method. We calculate the transmission properties for phononic strips with different fluid defects and demonstrate a good agreement with the experimental transmission. Bandgaps and passing bands can be switched by changing the number of hollow pillars filling up with water. Our results imply that elastic wave propagating in a solid-matrix can be manipulated through changing the properties of fluid fillings. The work in this paper is relevant to innovative design of acoustic devices.
