Benchmark of electromagnetic simulator for specific absorption rate (sar) calculation

Résumé

This paper presents a benchmark of electromagnetic simulator with reference data provided in standards. The first objective is to calculate the SAR values in an anthropomorphic-shaped phantom situated near a base station or mobile phone antenna. Calibration is necessary because physical dimensions of the phantom are quite large in comparison with wavelength. It involves an important amount of data proceeding, i.e. computation time and computer memory, when rigorous electromagnetic analysis is carried on. So, approximations are welcome if the accuracy of the results is preserved. We use here, the physical optics (PO) coupled with method of moments technique (MoM) within FEKO [1] software for such purpose. Computation results are then validated by comparing them with the measurement results issued from standards such as IEC62209-part 1 [2] or IEEE Standard 1528-2003 [3]. This work is a part of ADONIS, a French research programme on dosimetric analysis of third generation mobile phones and base stations within the RNRT framework programme (Réseau National de Recherche en Télécommunications).
