Connaît-on vraiment la céramique de Martres-Tolosane / Petites-Pyrénées ?
Résumé
The French pottery village of Martres-Tolosane is well-known for reproducing the decors of the major French faïence centers. Yet, as elsewhere, the ceramists working in the 23 villages composing the Martres-Tolosane area have always been keen to innovate and associate with renowned artists. The reason for their attraction to faïence with traditional decors dates back to the 19th century when decors from the past centuries were revived. The positioning of the center on the market during the 20th century derived from this choice. Nowadays, faïence producers are relinquishing tradition to become active in creation.
