On the complementary function amplitude for film thickness in Micro-EHL
Abstract
Given recent published measurements of the amplitude of the complementary clearance ripple in micro-elastohydrodynamic lubrication conditions, the present article compares theoretically obtained amplitudes with the experimental ones from literature. Based on the results obtained, the article explores a possible explanation to why previous attempts of comparisons show deviations. The explanation seems to be that in previous literature attempts the amplitude of the theoretical overall deformed clearance was used rather than only the amplitude of the complementary function. In addition, theoretical and experimental results are included about changes in amplitude and shape of the complementary function due to non-Newtonian lubricant effects.
