A COMBINATION OF GOLD CARBENES AND X-RAYS IS ASSOCIATED WITH CELLULAR AND MITOCHONDRIAL DYSFUNCTIONS IN PROSTATE CANCER CELLS

Prostate cancer is the most frequent male cancer and the third cause of death due to a cancer. Cancers are characterized by the perturbation of many cellular parameters such as proliferation, metabolism, in which mitochondria are implied. In this latter is found a very particular DNA population: the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Some mtDNA mutations are correlated to tumorigenesis and cancer progression. These facts strengthen the important role of mitochondria in tumorigenesis
