Los emblemas de las Biblias del Oso y del Cántaro. Hipótesis interpretativa

Résumé

The first bible translated integrally into Spanish by Casiodoro de Reina was published in Basle in 1569. It is known as 'The Bible of the Bear' after the emblem that adorns its. This emblem has been interpreted in a barely satisfactory way. We propose a new interpretative hypothesis based on the comparison of the emblems in the first two Protestant Spanish bibles: 'The Bible of the Bear' and 'The Bible of the Pitcher'. The latter is the review of Reina's bible realized by Valera in 1602. The emblems in both bibles have in common iconographic elements, composition structure, biblical quotations and significations.
