Interactive Concrete Surface

Résumé

The increasing use of information technology is transforming our design methods, fabrication processes and perception of the architectural space. The hybridization of modeling tools, digital fabrication and rapid prototyping machines, the integration of communicating devices and the emergence of smart materials, the use and the expanding of an augmented space are all contributing elements that are leading to the emergence of a digital materiality. The recent development of materials allows designer and architects to define changeable and responsive properties of the materials. We tackle the question of digital materiality design and we seek to categorize some of these issues through a multidisciplinary experiment. First we propose an overview and a theoretical description of the concepts and second we present an experiment based on the design and fabrication of an interactive concrete surface. This case study presents the cooperation framework, ours objectives, the design process, the technical description and the user interaction scenario.
