A finite control set model predictive control based hybrid PWM technique

Résumé

Hybrid Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) techniques select the appropriate PWM sequence that induces either less current distortion or less switching losses or both. The sequence selection is usually based on an off-line sector partitioning. This simple solution freezes unfortunately the design and prevents any on-line evolution. In this article the improved hybrid PWM technique based on Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control (FCS-MPC) enables a sequence selection based on FCS-MPC theory at each sample time. The choice on the finite set of PWM sequences is made through a user-defined trade-off between the minimization of the load current distortion and the switching losses. Simulation and experimental results are presented to support the developed technique and demonstrate appreciable reduction of the losses.
