Fracture Mechanics and Spall Detachment in Cyclic Hertzian Contacts: Theory and Computer Simulation

Résumé

A semi-analytical two-dimensional linear elastic model of multiple bent fatigue cracks is developed for contact loadings, taking into account friction between crack faces [1,2,3]. The model rests on the dislocation theory and on the contact problem solution between crack faces as a unilateral contact with friction. This model is used to predict particle detachment and crack propagation and direction under non proportional mixed mode loading conditions. A typical configuration that may lead to spall detachement is analysed.
