Fabricating Risk… Sketching the History of Expert Power
Résumé
Expertise has played an essential role in the historical construction of juvenile violence as a social problem. Violence as an intimate and social phenomenon often associated with youth is understood in both objective and subjective terms. Its importance can be measured by its multiple expressions in the public sphere. The expert, who is situated at the centre and periphery of the child protection system, gathers this expression and gives it form. Thus youth violence is often filtered, interpreted, and circulated by expert discourses.
