A simplified simulator of the Rake receiver in the HSDPA system

Résumé

High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) aims to increase the data rate in the downlink. It can provide peak data rates up to 10 Mbps. This is achieved by the introduction of new techniques such as Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) and Hybrid Automatic Request (HARQ). A former study of HSDPA concerned its implementation and its performance over the AWGN channel and the multipaths channel. It has been proved that HSDPA shows good performance over both channels. Moreover, simulations in multipaths channel with the system simulator using Rake receiver requires a very long computing time because of iterative processing used in turbo decoding. This paper proposes a fast simulator of the HSDPA system over multipaths channel. This simulator assumes that the channel is block fading. Then, it exploits the performance of HSDPA over gaussian channel as look-up table. The simulator also uses the analytical expression of SIR (Signal to Interference Ratio) at the output of the rake receiver to derive the Frame Error Rate by simple linear interpolation. It is shown that the CPU time is considerably reduced.
