Le pitture murali di Cacaxtla e le influenze maya nel Messico centrale

Elena Mazzetto

Résumé

"The murals at the archaeological site of Cacaxtla, in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala, form an artistic corpus documenting the excellence of ancient Meso-America. The subject of highly debated research since the nineteen seventies, what has attracted the specialists’ attention most is the riddle of the painters' identity. These depictions, in fact, like the facial features of some of the characters portrayed, are closely reminiscent of the Maya and their artistic style. The purpose of this work is to tackle the problem and provide a detailed iconographie study of the pictorial depictions at the site. It presents the results of a survey conducted on the origins of the Mayan elements depicted and highlights the similarities found between the artistic style of Cacaxtla and that of Palenque, one of the westernmost towns in Mayan civilisation."
