Diversity and valorization of the electricity generation technologies in the European Community
Résumé
This paper examines a tension within the European utility industries and within European industry as a whole: whether to foster diversity or scale. In sectors such as the electricity supply industry, it is clear that the specific technological options and institutional settings within which such industries operate raise questions of diversity. The authors examine the scale of diversity in this sector, focusing on the examples of nuclear power and combined heat and power, and suggest some ways in which the value of diversity can be assessed.
