Higher education and research: growing time pressures
Résumé
This article focuses on the temporalities of work in the higher education and research sector, which has recently undergone an accelerated transformation. It investigates the influence of public governance reforms, the effects of globalisation and the evolving expectations of the different stakeholders operating here. The end result seems to be a dual trend involving a rise in working hours and reduced control over working times. The consequences of these changes are also addressed in terms of their effects on inter-individual and group relationships at work, inequalities and career paths, occupational health or different higher education and research outputs.
