Retailer Supply Networks: An analysis and research perspective

Résumé

With their vast logistics, a large array of products, and large number of suppliers, retailer groups face challenges in optimization of their supply networks. Growing competition, more demanding consumes, increasing price pressures, fluctuating energy prices, and environmental regulations put pressure and also open up opportunities to improve supply chain efficiency and reduce system wide costs. With this objective, retailer groups aiming to take decisions in a range of areas which have a short to medium term scope such as: transportation, inventory replenishment and scheduling, pricing; as well as long term scope such as: logistics network redesign, negotiations and forging new relationships and contractual arrangements with suppliers. The objective of this study is to firstly thoroughly study existing retailer supply chain and logistics networks, the corresponding literature and identify challenges and opportunities. Followed by laying down a framework and a road map for the modeling and analysis for optimization of retailer supply chains and show possible mathematical optimization problems, along with a detailed survey in the existing literature in the field of supply chain optimization.
