Optimal Placement Algorithm (OPA) for IoT over ICN

Résumé

Information Centric Networks (ICN) is very promising into Internet of Things (IoT) deployment, reducing the IoT data retrieval latency as well as the IoT traffic in the network. Also, inherent ICN in-network caching limits the massive data access to the producer and so relaxes the need of continuous connectivity (this allows IoT devices to enter in sleep mode then they are not needed to be On). In this paper, we present an ICN-IoT architecture merging both paradigms. ICN nodes provide IoT gateway and IoT caching functions. An algorithm is proposed to choose the optimal placement location for ICN nodes. The placement algorithm is evaluated with respect to several performance metrics and shows to improve IoT consumer response time and reduce load on IoT nodes. Furthermore, we propose a caching strategy that shows to stabilize the network despite any increase in the number of consumer interests
