A Local Leader election protocol applied to decentralized traffic regulation
Résumé
MASCAT is a research-based Road Traffic Simulator based on the concept of Multi-Agent System (MAS).
In this paper we propose a Java Plugin for Semantic Traffic Data Analysis in MASCAT. The plugin's purpose is to introduce an Interpretation phase to the simulators Distributed Artificial Intelligence cycle. This phase will allow the Connected Vehicles to make the most efficient behavioral decisions based on their surrounding Environment. This is done by designing a Semantic Web Ontology to describe traffic data, from which these behavioral decisions would be Inferred. The semantic plugin main objectives are to link, structure and analyze MASCAT's Traffic Data and to optimize the Local Leader Election Protocol. Indeed, we were able to demonstrate that a small percentage of connected vehicles, which are able to adapt their behavior to a Continuously Shifting environment, can help ensure efficient traffic regulation.
