In vitro detection of bacterial contamination in platelet concentrates by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry: a preliminary study

Résumé

Platelet concentrates are at risk of transfusion-related sepsis. The microbial detection methods currently available have reached their limits, as they do not completely prevent transfusion-related bacterial contamination. The aim of this study was to develop a new strategy to detect the risk of platelet transfusion-related bacterial contamination using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS).
