Private Regulation in the Global Garment Value Chain
Résumé
Drawing on the literature on Global value chains and on labour regulation in low cost production countries, we investigate the Accord on Fire and Building Safety which has been set up under the aegis of the ILO in the wake of the Rana Plaza collapse tragedy in Bangladesh. We describe its provisions and operations, analyze its actors, its governance structure and why it is considered a novel and promising initiative which could pave the way for more binding regulation initiatives.
