Inverse Methodology for Centrifugal Compressor Design Using Genetic Algorithm

Résumé

The major aim of this paper is to develop a method for centrifugal compressor design. The design turbomachinery mode sets out to create a geometric configuration that meets certain specifications. The developed approach combines a genetic algorithm program to a direct ethodology in order to determine the best compressor geometry that reaches the targeted performance. This direct methodology allows for predicting the performance of a centrifugal compressor from their geometrical characteristics. It is based on a one-dimensional thermodynamic analysis of energy losses due to: friction, flow separation, deflections of the flow motion and internal flow leakages. The values of pressure, temperature and velocity at each compressor characteristic section are determined fromenergy balance equations. The direct methodology is evaluated by a 3D CFD flow simulation. The results indicate that the developed inverse method presented in this paper is effective.
