Multimode semiconductor lasers under strong optical feedback : analysis based on an equivalent-reflection-coefficient approach

We investigate the modal properties of multimode semiconductor lasers subject to strong optical feedback. A formalism is developed, based on an equivalent-reflection-coefficient approach, which takes into account the multimodal character of a laser and enables a quantitative description of a compound cavity mode, resulting from the coupling between the solitary laser and the external cavity.
