Kaggen, the Trickster God. Bushman Mythology as a Clue to Reading Dog Heart by Breyten Breytenbach
Résumé
In Breyten Breytenbach’s Dog Heart, the presence of the Bushman trickster god, Kaggen, intrigues and puzzles. If it can be argued that Kaggen is emblemetical of the typical main character of Breytenbach’s autofiction in general, what does the sudden appearance of the trickster god signify with regards Breytenbach's general œuvre? Dog Heart, a text woven through with grammatical transgressions (corrected in the American edition) will be read in the light of the destabilising presence of Kaggen.
