Cinema, Self-Help, Social Practices
Résumé
Because self-help culture relies on common sense, the film narrative can include it as a social practice yet not quite acknowledge it. By using the idea of social practices in excerpts from films such as "Executive Suite", "The Assassination of Richard Nixon" and "Nurse Betty", among others, we looked at how self-help culture over history is embodied in turn in positive or negative narratives of success, self-actualization or journey.
