Law and Economics in 20th–century Europe : History and Methodology. Introduction
Résumé
For a number of years now, the history of relations between the law and economics in the 20th century has been the focus of many, in-depth studies (Harnay & Marciano 2003, 2009a, 2011 ; Hovenkamp 1995 ; Medema & Mercuro 2006 ; and Pearson 1997). Nonetheless, these works have primarly focused on the United States and largely neglected the corresponding situation in Europe. Thus, the progressive development in 20th century Europe of studies at the confluence of economics and the law, questioning, implicitly or explicitly, the relation between the two disciplines, remains a remarkably unexplored area of research. Consequently, the European dimension of the recent history of the economics of law, economic law and the economics of institutions is still relatively unexamined.
