Résumé

The geographical terms found in the works of eminent literary personalities, not only teach us about the history of ancient cities, but could also be helpful in our understanding of the cultural-geographical sphere in which their authors lived. In this present study, we will discuss the geographical places mentioned in Jalal ad-Din Rumi'masterpiece Mathnawi, notably the references to Mesopotamia. The mystic poet, Rumi, is well known for his unique way of qualifying geographical places which we will then compare to actual observations made by some famous moslim geographers/travelers shortly before and after Rumi's life time.
