The Pallophone
Résumé
The “Pallophone”, instrument conceived and developed by the researchers of LAM, is designed to allow deaf people to feel selected sounds from their surrounding (noise, natural sounds, music and voice).
The instrument’s principle is based on the transformation of acoustic waves into vibrations, resulting in a stimulation of the acoustic nerve directly by bone conduction or tactile sensation.
In order to be used in various situations, “Pallophone” is of small size, light, adjustable, thus portable. It’s divided in three main parts; an acoustic sensor, an amplifier and a tactile transducer.
